Kenya vs Angola team news

Kenya

Harambee Stars have suffered a blow after Masoud Juma picked up a knock against DR Congo. The 2017 Kenya Premier League top scorer led the line on Sunday and lasted 66 minutes before he was replaced by Boniface Muchiri

Head coach Benni McCarthy did not entirely rule him out of the Angola test but hinted at possible changes to his starting XI.

There are no other injury concerns, including Manzur Suleiman, who put in a solid shift in the middle of the pack, but went off injured.

"We have analysed Angola. What they do as a team in possession and out of possession. They like to press high, so we will set up in a way that counters this to our advantage. They play with three attackers, which allows their wingbacks to advance very high on the pitch, so we have to find solutions to this, the way Morocco did."

Angola

As for Angola, head coach Pedro Goncalves confirmed that every member of his travelling contingent will be available for the game.

The Portuguese tactician insisted that his side would be unfazed by facing Kenya on home soil.

"It's going to be a good atmosphere. We're playing against a home team, but I don't think that's going to scare us. We have to focus on our objectives, and I think that on the pitch it's the same for everyone," he said.
"It's just a matter of the strategic plan and being able to play on the pitch to overcome our opponent and win the game. It's always our mentality, whether it's tennis, Morocco, Zambia, Congo or wherever. Whenever we get on the pitch, it's to find a solution to overcome our opponent."

Kenya won the reverse game in Nairobi, a game in which the current FKF President, McDonald Mariga, scored the winner and got sent off.

Benni McCarthy suffers personal loss

At the same time, Harambee Stars coach McCarthy lost someone close on the eve of the game against Angola.

His former teammate, Portuguese legend Jorge Costa, sadly passed on August 5 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Costa captained the famous Porto team under Jose Mourinho that won the UEFA Champions League in 2004.
