VieON Global connects overseas Vietnamese through local content

VieON Global is positioning itself as a digital cultural bridge, offering an extensive collection of Vietnamese-language content to overseas communities and nurturing a shared sense of belonging across borders.

After five years of development, VieON, a member of DatVietVAC Group Holdings, has become Vietnam's leading OTT platform, reaching over 72 million connected devices. In early 2024, it launched VieON Global, marking a strategic effort to bring Vietnamese entertainment to international audiences.

More than an entertainment platform, VieON Global serves as a cultural connection space for Vietnamese people living abroad. With over 10,000 hours of content—including films, music, and television shows—the platform helps generations of Vietnamese born and raised abroad reconnect with their heritage and cultivate pride in their roots.

Operating in countries such as the United States, Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and Cambodia, VieON Global has increased the accessibility of Vietnamese content for the diaspora, contributing to the global visibility of Vietnamese culture in digital entertainment. It has also been recognized as a successful model of digital transformation in content creation.

Beyond online streaming, VieON Global extends its cultural presence through live events. Recently, VieON Global partnered with a U.S.-based organization to host the "Anh Trai Say Hi" concert in Las Vegas, showcasing the youthful and contemporary spirit of Vietnamese young artists to the Vietnamese-American community.

Held at the Planet Hollywood Theater over two nights, the concert fostered cultural connection among attendees. At the event, Bao Thai, Managing Director of VieON, introduced the platform to the international audience and reaffirmed its mission to develop digital content that carries strong Vietnamese cultural values.

"Let us stay connected with our homeland. Let us watch and listen to entertainment as if we were in Vietnam and share our culture with the world," he said.

Artist HIEUTHUHAI expressed his emotions performing in Vietnamese in the United States, calling it "a special moment of 2025." Meanwhile artist Duong Domic called it "an honor" to help extend the cultural thread connecting Vietnamese people at home and abroad."

VieON Global currently offers what is considered the world's largest Vietnamese content library, featuring hundreds of TV dramas, films, game shows, and reality programs that are regularly updated and produced. Several VieON shows have ranked among the most-watched programs in Vietnam, including "Anh Trai Say Hi," "Em Xinh Say Hi," "2 Days 1 Night Vietnam", and "Run For Time Vietnam".

The VieON Originals section highlights locally produced works that have received critical acclaim. "Giac Mo Cua Me" (directed by Nguyen Minh Chung) won Best TV Drama at the Mai Vang Awards 2022. "7 Nam Chua Cuoi Se Chia Tay" (directed by Nguyen Hoang Anh) won three categories at the Mai Vang Awards 2024. "Uoc Minh Cung Bay" (directed by Phan Dang Di) earned actor Lanh Thanh the Best Actor award at the Ngoi Sao Xanh Awards 2024.

In addition to critical acclaim, several VieON Originals have made a remarkable impact with viewers, amassing impressive viewership across major digital platforms including VieON, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Zalo Video. Hanh Phuc Bi Danh Cap (directed by Nham Minh Hien) garnered over 5 billion views. Yeu Truoc Ngay Cuoi (directed by Vo Thach Thao) reached 1 billion views. Meanwhile, Nu Chu (directed by Nguyen Hoang Anh) and Tieu Tam Khong Co Loi? (directed by Tran Buu Loc) attracted 800 million and 500 million views, respectively.

A standout among recent releases, Co Dung Hong Thoat Khoi Toi" (directed by Nguyen Hoang Anh) —currently streaming—achieved 200 million views within just one month. These figures underscore the growing demand for high-quality, homegrown Vietnamese storytelling and highlight VieON's rising influence in shaping the digital entertainment landscape.

As director of several internationally awarded Vietnamese films, Phan Dang Di emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural identity through the journey of artistic creation . At a time when global streaming platforms often prioritize mass appeal, he sees producing original Vietnamese content as a way to safeguard and pass on national heritage.

"Staying committed to Vietnamese stories is not only an artistic choice, it is a cultural responsibility. It's how we affirm our place in the global creative landscape," he said.

He shared his pride in having "Uoc Minh Cung Bay" featured on VieON Global. After the film aired, he received an emotional message from a former student, now a film lecturer at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, who had watched the movie from the U.S.

"She told me she cried watching the story of a poor Vietnamese neighborhood, so rich in atmosphere and authenticity. Moments like this, when a viewer halfway across the world feels such a strong emotional connection, that's the greatest reward for any filmmaker," he said. "I hope VieON Global continues to bring Vietnamese stories to our people worldwide, so no matter where they live, they can stay close to their homeland and roots."
