This is the result of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's analysis of in-depth survey data on patients with emergency room injuries from 2020 to 2024.

As a result of the analysis, a total of 3,664 bee sting accidents have occurred in the last five years, with 88 hospitalized and 13 dead.

In terms of the period, it occurred intensively between July and September (70.5%), especially during the daytime between 12:00 and 18:00, and occurred a lot on weekends (47.0%). Bee sting accidents occurred mainly during daily life (37.2%), leisure activities (24.3%), and work (20.0%), and the proportion of daily life such as rest and lying and leisure activities such as climbing is high in the 0s and 30s, and after their 40s, they were often stung by bees during work (weeding, weeding, etc.). The body parts that are stung by bees were mainly in the order of hands (25.5%), arms (17.6%), faces (13.5%), and legs (12.2%).

Men (64.4%) accounted for the highest percentage of bee sting patients, and those in their 60s (25.8%) and 50s (22.1%) accounted for the highest percentage.

Looking at the location, bee stings occurred frequently in outdoor, river, and sea (37.5%), roads (18.8%), houses (16.1%), farms, and primary industrial sites (9.6%). The ratio of outdoor, river, and sea was the highest among all age groups except those in their 20s. Those in their 20s were 36.1% on roads and 29.3% on outdoor, river, and sea. 0-9 years old was most common in the order of house (19.8%), play and cultural space (16.9%), followed by road (26.9%), and house (14.1%). Those in their 30s and 50s had the highest proportion of damage on the road after outdoor, river, and sea, especially in their 50s, there were many cases in farm and primary industrial sites such as houses and fields.

Snake bites have occurred in 726 cases in the last five years. It was most common in September (24.0%), followed by July-August (16.3% in July and 16.8% in August). It occurred a lot on weekends (40.8%) of the week, mainly between 12 and 18 (41.0%) and between 06 and 12 (30.3%). By age, those in their 60s (28.9%), 70s and older (24.0%), and 50s (19.6%) accounted for 72.5% of the total, with men accounting for 56.6%, more than women (43.4%). In particular, snake bite accidents require attention as the hospitalization rate is high at 59.6%.

It occurred mainly during work (27.3%), during daily life (24.2%), and during unpaid work (22.9%), such as arranging warehouses or separating collections (22.9%). In the 0s and 40s, the frequency of occurrence was high during leisure and daily life, but after the 60s, it was found that it often occurred during work such as field work and unpaid work.

By location, the number of snake bite accidents was 43.1% in outdoor, river, and sea, and 27.7% in farms and primary industries such as fields. At home, snakes were often bitten in gardens and yards (56.4%), and other outdoor spaces (18.2%) such as separate collection centers and warehouses were often bitten.

Hands (60.6%) were mainly bitten by snakes, followed by feet (20.9%) and legs (9.3%).

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised that people should be careful during outdoor activities and evacuate to a safe place without trying to catch hives or snakes, especially since there are many bee stings and snake bites until October.

Lim Seung-kwan, the head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said "Be careful because bee stings and snake bites occur frequently from August to September, and when weeding or field work, we should strictly observe prevention methods such as wearing long-sleeved clothes and boots."," he said.

According to the 「Safety Rules for Punishment」 guided by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wearing bright clothes (in the order of danger: black>brown>red>green>yellow) and long-sleeved clothes are recommended. If you are stung by a bee, push the bee sting with a credit card to remove it, and if the pain persists or overreacts, you should go to the hospital immediately.

In addition, it is recommended to wear gloves, boots, and long pants in mountain climbing or paddy fields to prevent snake bites. If a snake is found, never go near it and immediately call 119 after evacuation. If bitten, the bite area should be placed in a lower position than the heart and movement should be restricted. Mash and apply herbs to wounds, squeeze them with a knife, suck poison with your mouth, and drink alcohol or caffeine because it can worsen the situation.
