
Recognition for Excellence in Sports Promotion
The Jindal Foundation, the social development arm of Jindal Steel & Power Limited, has received a prestigious honor by winning the Gold Category award at the CSR TIMES Awards for its outstanding contributions to sports promotion. This recognition was presented during the 12th CSR Summit in New Delhi, where H.E. Ms Jacqueline Mukangira, High Commissioner of Rwanda to India, handed over the award to Mr Prashant Hota, President and Group Head (CSR) of Jindal Steel.
Several notable figures attended the event, including H.E. Mr Nguyen Thanh Hai, Hon'ble Ambassador from Vietnam to India; Dr Rashmi Singh, Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Development; Maj Gen (Dr) Ramesh K Raina, Director of Rashtriya Raksha University; Prof. Bejon Mishra, Publisher and Editor of The Aware Consumer; and Air Marshal Shri V.P.S. Rana, Jury Member of the CSR Times Awards 2025. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the impact of the Jindal Foundation’s work.
A Holistic Approach to Sports Development
The award highlights the Jindal Foundation’s innovative efforts in cultivating sporting talent in rural areas and enhancing the overall sports ecosystem. Through structured interventions in various disciplines such as wushu, archery, football, cricket, kabaddi, hockey, and kho-kho, the Foundation has made a significant difference in the lives of many young athletes.
The gala ceremony, which brought together industrial leaders and CSR champions from across the country, celebrated the Foundation's strategic and sustained influence on sports development, especially in remote and underserved regions of India. The Jindal Foundation's approach to sports promotion extends beyond just building infrastructure. It emphasizes holistic development, focusing on identifying grassroots talent, offering professional training, ensuring proper nutrition, and providing mentorship.
Over the past decade, the Foundation has established sports academies and formed partnerships with local communities to ensure access to quality coaching in multiple sports. These initiatives have created opportunities for youth to thrive and excel in their chosen fields.
Commitment to Youth Empowerment
Ms Shallu Jindal, Chairperson of the Jindal Foundation, expressed her gratitude to the jury for the award. She emphasized that every young person, regardless of their geographical location, deserves a chance to succeed. "Sports is not only a platform for physical excellence but also a powerful medium for empowerment, discipline, and community transformation," she said. She dedicated the award to the spirit of rural India's youth who dream beyond boundaries.
Mr Prashant Hota, receiving the award, shared his vision for the future. He stated that the Jindal Foundation, guided by the principles of its role model Sri Naveen Jindal Ji and under the leadership of Ms Shallu Jindal, is working towards making India future-ready to win the highest number of Olympic medals.
Expanding Reach and Impact
Inspired by the passion for sports of Shri Naveen Jindal, the Foundation's initiatives have already impacted over 40,000 youth in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and other regions. Alumni of the Foundation's programs are competing at national and international levels, challenging stereotypes and bringing hope to their communities.
Jindal Steel has invested in the development of more than twenty playgrounds, three sporting complexes, and fifteen rural gyms. Additionally, the Foundation operates a sports hostel for tribal children in Barbil, Odisha, where several players have won medals in national and international wushu tournaments.
