Kia Introduces the Karens Clavis EV: A New Seven-Seat Electric Vehicle for the Indian Market
Kia has introduced a new seven-seat electric vehicle called the Karens Clavis EV. This model marks a significant milestone as it is the first electric vehicle (EV) produced in India. The vehicle combines the features of an SUV with a focus on luxury and modern technology, making it a versatile option for families and adventure enthusiasts.
When the Karens Clavis was first launched in May 2025, many believed it to be an electric vehicle due to its advanced design. However, the initial release featured an internal combustion engine. Later, in July, Kia unveiled a fully electric version of the car, showcasing its commitment to the growing electric vehicle market.
The Karens Clavis EV reflects a future-oriented style that blends traditional SUV elements with innovative design. Several functional improvements have been made, including the installation of a charging port in the grille area of the internal combustion engine. Additional features such as LED fog lamps, lighting grilles, and newly designed alloy wheels enhance aerodynamics and overall performance.
Kia describes the Karens Clavis EV as a "recreational vehicle optimized for SUV-inspired lifestyles." It offers a more luxurious experience compared to the basic Karens model, with a differentiated exterior design and a technology-focused interior.
Interior Features and Comfort
The interior of the Karens Clavis EV maintains the existing three-row seating configuration, which spans 4550mm in length. The dashboard is equipped with a 26.6-inch wide digital cockpit, available as a standard feature across all trims. The absence of a traditional gearbox allows for a floating center console design, providing more space for passengers.
Depending on the trim level, the vehicle includes various convenience features such as first-row ventilation seats, an eight-speaker Boss sound system, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and up to 20 advanced driver assistance systems with Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities.
Shared Specifications and Performance
Like the regular model, the Karens Clavis shares basic specifications with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos SUVs. The EV version also shares the battery with the Hyundai Creta Electric's powertrain. The base model comes with a 42kWh battery, delivering 133 horsepower and 225Nm of torque. With this setup, the vehicle offers an estimated range of 404 km in India.
For those seeking longer driving distances, the Long Range model features a larger 51.4 kWh battery. This provides up to 169 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, increasing the driving range to 490 km. Both battery packs are IP67 certified, offering dust and water resistance, and support V2L functions along with 100 kW DC fast charging.
Pricing and Availability
In India, the Karens Clavis EV is priced between Rs. 1,79,000 (approximately 29.1 million won) and Rs. 2,449,000 (around 39 million won). For comparison, the gasoline and diesel versions of the Karens Clavis range from 1.15 million rupees to 2.15 million rupees (about 18.6 million won to 34.8 million won).
Although the Karens Clavis EV is currently focused on the Indian market, it is expected to gain popularity in Korea due to its seven-seater configuration. However, plans for a launch in Korea as a strategic model for India and other emerging markets remain undecided.
