A New Era for Nigeria’s Digital Landscape
9mobile has officially rebranded as T2, marking a significant shift in the telecom industry. This transformation represents more than just a name change; it is an innovation-driven digital lifestyle brand with a mission to power Nigeria’s digital economy. The new identity was unveiled at a corporate event titled “Tech Meets Tenacity” held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The rebranding includes a shift from the company’s traditional green color scheme to a vibrant orange hue. This change symbolizes a major transition in the company's operations and market outlook. According to its management, this marks the beginning of an exciting cultural and digital evolution that resonates with the pulse of a rising generation.
T2 aims to blend the power of connectivity with the vibrancy of lifestyle, creativity, and youth expression. It positions itself firmly within the culture of now, offering a unique approach to how a telecom brand engages with people's lives. The rebrand follows the 2023 acquisition of 9mobile by Lighthouse Telecoms under the leadership of business leader and investor, Mr. Thomas Etuh. This strategic move has reenergized the company through visionary leadership, bold partnerships, and a deep understanding of today’s digital-first consumers.
A key development in this transformation was the execution of a strategic infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN Nigeria. This agreement, the first of its kind at scale in the country, has already led to significant expansion in network coverage, capacity, and resilience nationwide. Such moves have positioned T2 as a formidable player in the Nigerian telecom sector.
Kenechukwu Okonkwo, Marketing Director at 9mobile, emphasized that “T2 is more than a new name, it’s a new vibe, a new rhythm, and a new way of connecting with the world.” He highlighted that T2 is built to be more than a telco, aiming to become a cultural partner that enables bold lives and big dreams.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister for Digital Economy, encouraged the company to view the rebrand as a renewed commitment to innovation and service excellence. He noted that the government will continue to work with ecosystem players like T2 who are bold enough to invest, agile enough to adapt, and visionary enough to embrace change before it’s forced upon them.
Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the Lagos State Government, described T2’s arrival as timely. She mentioned that the brand’s mission and cultural positioning align strongly with Lagos’ digital economy agenda, which fosters creativity, digital entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment. The state is excited to see brands like T2 champion this vision with purpose and energy.
The transition to T2 will be rolled out through a vibrant wave of brand experiences, influencer collaborations, digital activations, and youth-led storytelling. These initiatives reflect the brand’s new voice, which champions authenticity, creativity, and empowerment.
Obafemi Banigbe, the Chief Executive Officer of 9mobile, explained that T2’s brand architecture is rooted in four key elements: Fast Connectivity, Smart Lifestyle, Creative Energy, and Trust. Whether powering content creators, remote workers, gamers, artists, entrepreneurs, or everyday hustlers, T2 is determined to be the digital heartbeat of a generation on the rise.
As Nigeria’s young population continues to lead the continent in innovation, art, fashion, and tech, T2 is setting the stage for a brand renaissance that mirrors their pace, celebrates their identity, and amplifies their future. “This isn’t just a brand relaunch. It’s a movement and Nigeria is invited to live it,” Banigbe said.
