Agritech Warriors Team Develops Solar-Powered Farm Robot

A group of three students from Al-Hikmat College in Lagos has created a groundbreaking innovation that could revolutionize farming practices. The team, known as Agritech Warriors, developed Agribot, a solar-powered robot designed to assist farmers with various agricultural tasks such as ploughing, sowing, and spraying. This invention aims to make farming more efficient and accessible, especially for small-scale farmers who may lack the resources for traditional equipment.

The robot was showcased during the End of Session/Prize Giving Ceremony at Al-Hikmat College, which took place on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Diekola Abanikanda Memorial Event Centre in Lagos. The event highlighted the achievements of students who graduated during the 2024/2025 academic session, with 15 students—seven boys and eight girls—receiving recognition for their academic excellence and moral conduct.

A Vision for Agricultural Innovation

The spokesperson for the Agritech Warriors team, Ms. Fareedah Amosuro, explained that the project was inspired by the need to modernize agriculture and attract younger generations to the sector. She emphasized that the initiative is aimed at reducing food scarcity and making farming more sustainable.

“Our goal is to increase efficiency and productivity among farmers while ensuring a steady food supply for the population,” she said. “We believe that technology can play a crucial role in transforming the way we approach agriculture.”

Agribot is equipped with multiple functions, including tilling, weeding, watering, spraying fertilizers or insecticides, sowing seeds, and monitoring soil conditions. Farmers can control the robot using a tablet, which allows them to issue commands remotely. The team initially developed the robot for CodeAvour, a coding and artificial intelligence championship, but later expanded its capabilities after the competition.

Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly

One of the most impressive features of Agribot is its reliance on solar energy. This makes it an eco-friendly solution that can be used in remote areas where access to electricity or fuel might be limited. The robot’s solar panel is designed to detect the direction of sunlight and adjust accordingly to maximize energy absorption.

“We wanted to create a machine that is not only functional but also kind to the environment,” Ms. Amosuro added. “By using solar power, we ensure that farmers can operate the robot without worrying about fuel costs or environmental impact.”

Despite the potential of Agribot, the team acknowledges that they face financial constraints that may delay its widespread use. However, they remain committed to making the robot accessible to farmers in the future.

Support from School Leadership

The school director of Al-Hikmat Schools, Alhaja Aminat Abdulkareem, praised the students for their innovative efforts and pledged continued support for such initiatives. She emphasized the importance of creating an environment where students can explore their ideas and develop practical solutions to real-world problems.

“The school will continue to encourage and support our students in their endeavors,” she said. “We see them as our children and want to provide them with the tools and opportunities to thrive.”

The director also highlighted the importance of peer mentoring, where senior students guide their juniors to maintain discipline and foster a sense of responsibility. This approach helps students stay grounded and focused on their goals.

Encouraging Aspirations and Ethical Values

In her address to the graduating students, the school director urged them to aim high and pursue success through hard work and perseverance. She warned against the temptation of quick gains, which often leads to unethical behavior and negative influences.

“Success is a process, not a destination,” she reminded the students. “We hope that they will continue to make positive contributions to society and avoid harmful activities that could jeopardize their future.”

She also called on parents to support their children in making ethical choices and staying away from criminal activities that are prevalent among some youth today.

As the Agritech Warriors team continues to refine Agribot, they remain hopeful that their invention will one day become a valuable tool for farmers across Nigeria and beyond. Their journey highlights the potential of young innovators to drive change and address pressing challenges through technology. With continued support and resources, the future of agriculture could be transformed by the next generation of problem-solvers.
