Building a Lasting Partnership for Financial Empowerment

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has expressed strong support for PostBank Uganda's efforts in promoting financial inclusion across the nation. His commendation came during a recent courtesy visit by the bank’s leadership at the Provincial Office in Namirembe, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the institution and the Church.

This visit followed an earlier meeting in August 2024, where the archbishop met with PostBank Managing Director Mr. Julius Kakeeto. That encounter laid the groundwork for a strategic alliance based on shared values and a long-term vision aimed at creating meaningful impact. The partnership is now moving forward with renewed energy and purpose.

During today’s meeting, it was announced that PostBank, which is currently rebranding as Pearl Bank, has agreed to continue its partnership with the Church of Uganda. The initiative aims to enhance financial security for bishops, clergy, and members of the church community. This collaboration will focus on developing tailored solutions that promote sustainable financial management and ensure dignity in retirement for those who have dedicated their lives to service.

Martin Mugisha, Executive Director of Operations at PostBank Uganda, praised the archbishop for his leadership and oversight of the Church. He highlighted the bank’s commitment to supporting the clergy and the broader church community in creating sustainable financial mechanisms. “Last year, the Archbishop visited us and emphasized the need to improve financial security for the clergy and their families,” he said. “We responded by implementing practical solutions that align with these goals.”

Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu welcomed the alliance, emphasizing the Church’s mission to transform communities in spiritual, social, and economic dimensions. “Our work touches families, churches, schools, and health centers, and we aim to witness a more dignified life for all, especially the vulnerable,” he stated. As spiritual leaders, he added, the Church is committed to being stewards of hope and action. “With support like yours, we can bring about meaningful change through education, economic empowerment, and pastoral care.”

He also reflected on the previous visit, noting the warm reception and clear demonstration of support from the bank. “You shared your vision with us, and I must say, it aligns closely with what we strive for in our ministry—serving, uplifting, and transforming lives.”

The Archbishop called for continued joint effort, compassion, and visionary leadership. “Let us be intentional about the next steps. Let us not only promise transformation, but live it.”

Key Objectives of the Partnership

The collaboration between PostBank Uganda and the Church of Uganda focuses on several key areas:

  • Financial Security: Ensuring a dignified and secure retirement for bishops, clergy, and church community members.
  • Sustainable Solutions: Co-creating and implementing tailored financial strategies that promote long-term stability.
  • Economic Empowerment: Supporting the Church’s mission to uplift communities through education and economic initiatives.
  • Pastoral Care: Enhancing support for families and individuals within the church network.

PostBank has committed annual seed capital for the next five years to launch and sustain this initiative. The bank’s broader goal is to foster prosperity for Ugandans through innovative financial services and community-driven programs.

This partnership exemplifies how institutions can work together to create lasting impact, blending faith, finance, and community development into a unified vision for the future.
