Whataburger Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Special Offers and Events
Whataburger is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a special offer that gives customers the chance to enjoy a classic burger for just 75 cents. This limited-time deal is available exclusively through the fast-food chain’s app or website, allowing rewards members to grab a #1 Whataburger at an unbeatable price. The promotion is valid at all 1,100 locations across the United States, though it is limited to one per account. Additional toppings or side items will incur extra charges.
In addition to the discounted burgers, Whataburger is hosting a larger celebration tonight at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. The event, known as 'Orange Out' Night, features a game between the Hooks — temporarily rebranded as the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits — and the Tulsa Drillers. Fans are encouraged to wear orange from head to toe to support the team. The first 1,500 attendees will receive a limited-edition mask, while the first 5,000 guests will get a commemorative cape. President and CEO Debbie Stroud will join the festivities, and the chain’s mascot, Whataguy, will throw out the first pitch. The night will conclude with fireworks and free coupons for Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits.
Since its founding in 1950, Whataburger has grown significantly, gaining renewed popularity due to its fan-favorite menu items such as the Double Meat Whataburger, which was recently ranked among the best fast food burgers in the country. The brand is now led by Todd Ewen, a former McDonald's executive who joined Whataburger in March 2023. His experience in real estate and quick-service restaurant operations is expected to play a key role in the company’s expansion plans.
Ewen’s appointment has already led to the opening of the first of 10 new North Carolina locations in May. Two more restaurants are set to open in the state next year. Before Ewen’s arrival, Whataburger had already expanded to six additional states, including Florida and Georgia. While the company has not yet released its latest financial outlook, it continues to roll out special offers and events throughout the year.
Whataburger has also begun launching limited-time products, such as table tents featuring its 75th-anniversary theme. New anniversary-inspired cups will be available on August 12 and August 19. Additionally, the brand is collaborating with Hulu to celebrate the return of King of the Hill, offering a limited-time meal inspired by one of the show’s iconic dishes.
For its Rewards members, upcoming promotions include extra points on large orders from August 11 to August 17, and a free burger with a purchase of a medium fry and drink between September 8 and September 12.
Despite these efforts, Whataburger faces stiff competition from other fast-food chains. McDonald’s recently brought back its Snack Wraps in response to customer demand and is preparing to launch its new McDonaldland Meal. It also plans to open 900 new restaurants by the end of 2027. Meanwhile, Fatburger is expanding aggressively in Florida, planning to open 40 new locations over the next few years. Other competitors, including Wendy’s, Burger King, and BurgerFi, have also been making moves this year, despite facing financial challenges or bankruptcy filings in recent months.
