A Love Story That Spanned Continents and Years

Alex Truong and Kim Long's journey began in the bustling environment of Facebook’s global training program in San Francisco. It was early 2017, and the tech giant had gathered its international employees for a week-long event. Among them was Alex, a Canadian from Quebec, who found himself captivated by a Vietnamese colleague named Kim Long. She was speaking fluent French, which immediately caught his attention.

After the event, they exchanged contact information, but their initial attempts at connecting were met with hesitation. Alex asked her to join him for breakfast, but she declined. “It felt odd,” she later recalled. “When people are just getting to know each other, they usually go out for dinner, not breakfast.”

Kim Long returned to Singapore, where she worked as a customer service team manager, while Alex went back to Canada. Over the years, both continued to thrive in their careers. They bought homes, became European citizens, and traveled extensively. However, despite their success, neither could fill the void left by love.

Kim Long had always been drawn to confident, charming men, but her experiences led her to realize that she needed someone more genuine. After several failed relationships, she decided to focus on self-improvement and healing. During a night out, a friend filmed her and posted the video online with the caption, “How is this girl still single?” The first comment came from Alex.

For seven years, he had quietly remained in her orbit, even though he had limited knowledge of Vietnamese. He stayed active on her social media, waiting for the right moment to reconnect. When she finally became single, he took the opportunity to test her with a question about life values. His response was detailed and thoughtful, outlining seven core values and his philosophy on life.

Reading his message, Kim Long realized they shared many common beliefs. She agreed to go on their first date, and the connection between them grew stronger over time.

In February 2023, Alex flew to Ireland to meet Kim Long. She made it clear that being in love meant marriage, and he nodded in agreement. To her surprise, he dropped to one knee and pulled out a small green box. Instead of a ring, it contained a pair of earbuds. Both laughed, realizing they shared a playful sense of humor.

Despite their busy schedules and frequent travel, they made an effort to spend time together. When Kim Long traveled to Asia, Alex rearranged his schedule to join her. He flew from France to Ireland every three to four weeks to visit her, showing his commitment.

One evening in July 2024, Alex proposed during a party celebrating Kim Long’s transfer back to the Singapore office. The proposal was made possible with the help of Joyce, Kim Long’s close friend from Ireland. Joyce witnessed Kim Long’s transformation from a girl born in Vietnam to a global citizen. She saw a new happiness in her after meeting Alex.

The couple held their wedding ceremony in March 2025, with over 100 guests from 16 countries. It was a “healing wedding” that brought estranged people together and connected overseas Vietnamese. “You are the one who made me believe in fate,” the bride said with teary eyes, reflecting on the journey that brought them together.
