Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Lives of Prominent Ghanaian Leaders

The Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) has expressed deep sorrow and shock following a tragic helicopter crash that resulted in the loss of eight Ghanaians, including several high-profile officials. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, leaving the nation in mourning.

In a statement released to the media, Mr. Simon Agianab, Dean of the PPC, described the loss as “deeply personal” due to the close relationship the press corps had with the victims while covering parliamentary activities. The statement highlighted the significant contributions of those who perished, particularly Dr. Alhaji Murtala Mohammed, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Dr. Murtala Mohammed was remembered for his insightful and passionate participation in parliamentary debates. His work reflected a strong commitment to the welfare of his constituents and the broader national interest. The PPC also paid tribute to Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister, who was noted for his composure, clarity, and dedication during his last appearance in the House.

“His presence in the Chamber was marked by a calm authority that earned him respect across the aisle,” the statement said. The PPC extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the Government of Ghana, the Parliament, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We mourn with the nation, knowing that their service and sacrifices will be remembered as part of Ghana’s democratic and development journey,” the statement added. It concluded with a prayer: “May their souls, and the souls of all who perished in the line of duty, rest in perfect peace.”
