- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stirred intrigue during his visit to Dallas, Texas, by showcasing a lavish residence
- The house featured a garden, cattle, and a custom sign welcoming him to “Wamunyoro, Texas”
- Photos of the home sparked speculation online, with many wondering if Gachagua owned the property
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has showcased the extremes to which Kenyans in the US have gone to make him feel at home.
The politician is on an extended stay abroad with his wife, Pastor Dorcas, as he tries to win over the electorate.
In his latest meeting, Gachagua travelled to Dallas, Texas, where he engaged with them.
What did Gachagua say in Texas?
“In Dallas this evening, we had a productive engagement with Kenyans living and working in the State of The Lone Star; a symbol of unity and solidarity of the people here, deeply reflecting the very spirit of my fellow Kenyans back home.
In the spirit of our Party, DCP philosophy, I have listened to them, and they have listened to me. The intersection remains; Kenya must be liberated,” he wrote on Saturday, August 2.
Images from the function showed Gachagua shaking hands and interacting with attendees. Before the meeting, he shared photos of a lush home, christened Wamunyoro after his village home in Nyeri County.
Gachagua showcases huge Texas mansion
The tagline first emerged in May when Gachagua shared photos from his home, and Kenyans were attracted to the sign reading:
“I love Wamunyoro.”
His hosts in Dallas attempted to recreate it by making a sign that read:
“Karibu Wamunyoro, Texas.”
The couple posed in front of the brownstone house with a lush garden. The huge property features a garage, a golf cart for moving around, and several seats outside. Gachagua and Dorcas also visited a section of the property where cattle were being kept.
He admitted that the message struck a chord in his heart. “Feeling at home, far away from home,” he wrote.
The images caused quite a buzz on social media, with some assuming that the property is Gachagua’s.
Here are some of the comments:
Jordan Guenther:
“Come to Chicago.”
Skeeter Kwamboka:
“Beautiful place, cousins.”
Philip L Kandie:
“Gen Z, have you thought of Wamunyoro having a home in Texas?”
Ibra Wa Digri:
“This guy is a tycoon.”
Casemiro Mugambi Bonnie:
“So, you mean you have bought another home there? How rich are you?”
Rare photos of renovations at state house
In other news, President William Ruto hosted former president Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi, on Friday.
This marked Uhuru’s first return since leaving office in 2022.
He was there for a high-level meeting on peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he plays a key diplomatic role.
After the talks, Ruto gave Uhuru a personal tour of the newly completed renovations at the historic residence and shared photos on social media.
The two leaders appeared relaxed, exchanging pleasantries and sharing a light moment.
Renovations at State House began in 2022 and include modern interiors and new structures. The project coincides with a sharp rise in the State House refurbishment budget.
