US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next Friday, August 15, 2025. The meeting is expected to focus on discussions about a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. The Kremlin confirmed the summit, describing the location as “quite logical.”
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, stating that the meeting would take place in the “Great State of Alaska.” He also suggested that an eventual deal between Moscow and Kyiv could involve territorial swaps, although he did not provide specific details.
The meeting comes amid ongoing tensions and conflicts in Ukraine, where tens of thousands of people have been killed since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Millions of Ukrainians have been displaced from their homes, and large areas of eastern and southern Ukraine have been destroyed due to continuous bombardments.

Before the meeting with Trump, Putin held consultations with the leaders of China and India. This follows Trump’s efforts to broker peace in Ukraine, which have yet to yield significant results. In recent developments, Donetsk governor Vadym Filashkin announced that families with children would be evacuated from 19 more villages in the region’s east. These villages, located within about 20 miles (30 kilometers) of the front line, are home to hundreds of people. The evacuations come as Russian forces continue their advances in the area.
Zelensky has emphasized the need for Ukraine to be a participant in any negotiations, stating that it is “only fair” for the country to have a voice in the process. Despite repeated calls for a ceasefire, Putin has resisted such demands, and talks with Zelensky remain uncertain.
