The Disappearance of Eliotte Heinz: A Family’s Desperate Search for Answers

The family of Eliotte Heinz, a 22-year-old graduate student, is urgently seeking answers after she went missing during a night out with friends. The incident has left the community in shock and the Heinz family in a state of deep emotional turmoil.

Eliotte vanished along the Mississippi River after leaving a bar in the early hours of Sunday morning in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was last seen on surveillance footage walking along the waterfront in the 500 block of Front Street South at around 3:22 am. According to her family, she was on her way back to her apartment when the footage was captured.

Earlier that evening, Heinz had been with a group of friends at Bronco’s Bar in the city’s downtown area. She left the bar around 2:30 am, and her disappearance occurred shortly thereafter. The circumstances surrounding her vanishing remain unclear, prompting law enforcement to launch an extensive search operation.

On Monday, local authorities conducted searches along the Mississippi River using drones and dive units to scan shorelines behind Front Street. The La Crosse Police Department reported receiving a significant number of tips over the past 48 hours, which could potentially lead to new developments in the case.

Eliotte’s parents and two siblings spent part of Monday handing out fliers across the city, hoping to raise awareness and gather more information about her whereabouts. During an emotional press conference, her mother, Amber Heinz, described her daughter as a smart and responsible individual.

“She needs to be back home with us. That's where she was trying to go, and we need her to be able to complete that,” Amber said, fighting back tears. “We love you, we miss you, and we’re doing everything we can to get you back to us.”

Amber urged anyone with security cameras to review their footage, emphasizing that even small details could be crucial in locating Eliotte. She also encouraged anyone with any information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward and share it with the police.

“If you have seen anything, even if it’s small—anything at all—please call the La Crosse Police Department,” she added. “If you have Ring cameras and think that you might have captured an image of Eliotte, please call them, let them take a look at your footage. Even if you don’t think it’s a big deal, it might be something that’s really big for her.”

Her brother, Brett Heinz, echoed his mother’s sentiments, stating that the family is struggling to cope with the situation. “Everyone is just really messed up right now. We don’t know where Eliotte is. We need to find her,” he said.

Eliotte is described as being five-foot-four, weighing approximately 120 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt and denim shorts. Originally from Hortonville, Wisconsin, which is roughly three hours east of La Crosse, Eliotte was pursuing a doctorate in psychology.

In a post shared on a local bulletin board, her family expressed their heartbreak over her sudden disappearance. “Eliotte Heinz is missing, and our family is heartbroken,” the message read. “She is responsible, kind, and deeply loved. Her sudden disappearance is completely out of character. We just want Eliotte home. This nightmare has shaken us to the core.”

Anyone with information about Eliotte’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the La Crosse Police Department’s non-emergency line at 608-782-7575. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at 608-784-TIPS or through their online platform.
