India Secures Thrilling Victory in Third ODI Against England
India secured a thrilling 13-run victory against England in the third One Day International (ODI) at Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street. This win not only clinched the series for India with a 2-1 lead but also showcased some exceptional performances from both teams.
Goud's Impressive Performance
One of the standout moments of the match was the six-wicket haul by Goud, who became the second youngest Indian cricketer to take a five-wicket haul in an ODI. This achievement came just four matches into her career, following in the footsteps of Deepti Sharma, who accomplished the feat at 18 years and 179 days old. Goud's performance was instrumental in securing the win for India.
England started their chase of a daunting target of 319 runs poorly, losing two wickets within the first two overs. Goud dismissed both openers for 4 and 2 runs respectively. Despite this early setback, Emma Lamb and England's captain Nat Sciver-Brunt mounted a strong counterattack, adding 162 runs for the third wicket. Both batters scored crucial fifties, but Goud eventually broke the partnership by dismissing Lamb for 68 off 81 balls in the 31st over.
Sciver-Brunt came close to scoring a well-deserved century, but she was removed by Deepti Sharma for 98 off 105 balls in the 35th over. Her innings included 11 fours. Alice Davidson Richards tried to increase the run rate with a fighting 44 off 34 balls before Goud took her wicket in the 48th over. Goud sealed the victory by removing Lauren Bell in the final over, finishing with an impressive figure of 6/52.
Kaur's Stellar Century
Earlier in the match, India's skipper Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a stellar performance, scoring a century that powered India to a total of 318/5. Richa Ghosh contributed significantly with a 38 off 18 balls, achieving a strike rate of 211.11, which helped India surpass the 300-run mark.
Kaur's century was a significant milestone as it brought her to 4000 ODI runs, making her only the third Indian woman batter to achieve this feat after Mandhana and legendary batter Mithali Raj. Her innings included 14 fours, showcasing her aggressive batting style.
Key Moments in the Match
India won the toss and opted to bat first in the third and final ODI against England, with the series level at 1-1. Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana opened the innings for India, adding 64 runs before Rawal was dismissed for 26 in the 13th over by Charlie Dean. England soon after removed Mandhana for 45 in the 18th over, with her innings including five fours.
Harmanpreet Kaur then joined Harleen Deol on the crease, and the pair added 81 runs for the fourth wicket before Deol was dismissed for 45 off 65 balls, including four fours. Jemimah Rodrigues then came in to partner Kaur, and the duo added 110 runs for the fifth wicket before Rodrigues was removed in the 46th over by Lauren Filer.
Kaur continued her aggressive form, scoring a brilliant 102 off 84 balls, including 14 fours. This was her seventh ODI hundred and marked the second-fastest century by an Indian women's batter in ODI cricket. India's performance in this match was remarkable, with the team reaching a score of 300 or more for the eighth time since January 2024.
England's Efforts
Despite their best efforts, England's bowlers could not contain India's batting lineup. All English bowlers managed to take a wicket each, with Sophie Ecclestone being the most successful. However, their collective effort was not enough to secure a victory in this high-stakes encounter.
This match highlighted the competitive nature of international cricket and the talent present on both sides. India's win in the third ODI proved to be a defining moment in the series, showcasing the strength and depth of their squad.
