Top EV Chargers of 2025

Our favorite selections following extensive testing, evaluation, and usage of numerous chargers over the course of the year.

Choosing the right electric vehicle charging equipment is typically one of the initial decisions that many new electric vehicle owners must address after ordering or receiving their EV.

Most electric cars include a portable charging device as standard, which is suitable for regular charging. Nevertheless, several owners choose to keep this charger in their vehicle, just in case they need to connect while traveling and are not near a public charging station.

Buyers of Fordelectric cars come with a complimentary charging unit, in addition to Ford's Power Promise, the company will even cover the cost of a standard installation of Ford's80-amp Charge Station Pro bi-directional charger.

Nevertheless, owners of other brand electric vehicles, as well as individuals who opt not to use the built-in portable charger for regular use, must choose a charger, and this decision is not straightforward. This is due to the fact that numerous companies offer hundreds of different EV charger models available on the market today.

For many new electric vehicle owners, this will probably be their initial experience with purchasing an EV charger, leaving them without prior knowledge. Furthermore, most EV chargers are produced by companies that they are unfamiliar with, as these firms do not offer any other consumer goods.

But don't worry. If you're reading this article, you've arrived at the perfect spot to discover the top EV chargers available in 2025. I'm Tom Moloughney, a Contributing Editor at InsideEVs and founder of theCharge Status YouTube channel, which is solely focused on electric vehicle charging.

I have been involved in using, testing, and evaluating electric vehicle charging devices for more than 15 years, and it's probable that I have tested more electric vehicle charging equipment than anyone in the U.S.—and possibly worldwide.

I own over 100 distinct electric vehicle charging units in my garage, and I dedicate my time to thoroughly testing them, so you don't have to. All the chargers listed here provide an output between 48-amps and 50-amps, as this has become the norm for most electric vehicles when charging from an AC power source.

Here are my top suggestions for the finest electric vehicle chargers in 2025, listed without any specific ranking.

The Top 48/50-Amp EV Chargers of 2025

United Chargers Grizzl-E Ultimate 48

United Chargers has been offering its 40-amp Grizzl-E series for numerous years, and it has consistently remained one of the best-selling electric vehicle chargers available. Nevertheless, in the middle of 2024, the company launched its new generation of chargers and named them the "Ultimate" line.

The Grizzl-E Ultimate 48is a preferred option in 2025 due to providing premium, safety-approved electric vehicle charging at an affordable cost of $479.00. The cast aluminum IP67-rated housing is among the most durable on the market and can endure being driven over by a 9,000lb vehicle.Hummer EV(I have done it) without suffering any damage apart from some scratched paint.

It includes a 3-year warranty, but you can add another year for an extra $100. All United Chargers products are proudly made in Canada, challenging the idea that premium electric vehicle chargers must be produced in Asia to offer good value.

Emporia Pro

The Emporia Prois the second iteration of 48-amp chargers from Emporia. The company provides a broad range of energy-efficient home devices, and the Emporia Pro is intended not only to charge your electric vehicle, but also to integrate within Emporia's product lineup.

The Emporia Pro includes Emporia's Vue home energy monitoring system, enabling the Pro to manage your home's electricity usage dynamically. This functionality is beneficial for individuals living in homes with limited electrical capacity. Numerous homes in the United States have a 100-amp or 150-amp service, which can make it challenging or impossible to install the 60-amp dedicated circuit needed for a 48-amp electric vehicle charger without a costly service upgrade.

The Vue energy monitor from Emporia works with the Pro EV charger to smartly control the power distribution in a home. This enables the vehicle to charge quickly when sufficient power is available, and reduces the charging rate when other household devices are consuming the available electricity. While some EV chargers offer intelligent load management, none integrate this feature with the charger itself, or provide it at a cost below $600.00.

EVIQO Evipower

EVIQO introduced its second-generation smart home charging station, named Evipower, in 2025. The first version was already among the top EV charging solutions and was featured in ourTop Electric Vehicle Charging Stations of 2024 article last year.

The second-generation Evipoweris offered in two configurations: a hardwired model with a peak power of 11.5 kW and a NEMA-1450 plug-in model with a maximum power of 9.6 kW. Each can be purchased with either a J1772 (the typical charging port for most electric vehicles) or a NACS (Tesla's North American Charging Standard) connector.

The initial Evipower model and the latest second-generation version have continuously been leading sellers on Amazon, and have recently become the top-selling EV charger on the site.

On the downside, the EVIQO application could use more functionalities. Furthermore, EVIQO does not provide smart-charging capabilities such as dynamic load control or energy sharing among multiple devices. Nevertheless, I had a conversation with the CEO, who mentioned that the company is developing these features and plans to include them in upcoming versions of Evipower.

Tesla Wall Connector and Universal Wall Connector

Despite increased competition, Teslastill offers some of the top electric vehicles on the market today. However, did you know? Tesla also provides two of the finest EV charging solutions available, along with itsWall Connector and Universal Wall Connector

All characteristics of both units are identical, with two differences. First, the Universal Wall Connector is required if you have aTesla Cybertruckand wish to utilize itvehicle-to-home bidirectional power capability.

Secondly, and most significantly, the "universal" in Universal Wall Connector refers to its groundbreaking built-in J1772 adapter. This adapter enables the unit to charge an electric vehicle that comes with a native NACS connector, as well as any J1772-compatible EV by utilizing the integrated adapter. It is ideal for a home that owns two EVs; one equipped with an NACS connector and the other using the J1772 standard.

Furthermore, both versions support power sharing and can perform dynamic load management, similar to the Emporia Pro, although extra equipment needs to be bought and installed to access the dynamic load management capability.

ChargePoint Home Flex

ChargePoint Home EV charging stations have been among, if nottheEV chargers that have sold the most since 2015, when the company first began offering the ChargePoint Home, a 32-amp charger. Four years later, in 2019, the company launched a more powerful 48-amp version and called it theChargePoint Home Flex. For the past ten years, ChargePoint's Home chargers have been acknowledged by numerous reviewers, including this one, as a leading EV charger. InsideEVs Editor-in-Chief Patrick George also has one in his garage.

It features the top cold-weather cable and one of the finest J1772 connectors currently on the market, as both were developed for use with ChargePoint's public Level 2 charging stations, where they must endure not only frequent usage, but also a broad temperature range and potential rough handling by certain users.

The ChargePoint Home Flex also includes the ChargePoint app, which is among the top EV charger applications on the market today, and it enables you to integrate your public ChargePoint charging with your home usage in a single app. However, the ChargePoint app has a critical drawback for certain users.

The application only lets you connect one charging station to it. Therefore, if you have two electric vehicles and wish to obtain two ChargePoint Home Flex units, you must use a separate email address and set up a new account for the second charger, which is not very convenient for users.

80-Amp High-Powered Chargers

Many electric cars currently have onboard chargers rated at 48 amps (or lower). Nevertheless, some electric vehicles feature 80-amp onboard chargers, allowing for charging speeds of as high as 19.2 kW.

Teslaonce provided an 80-amp on-board charging option for its Model S and X, but stopped offering this feature in 2018. When theFord F-150 LightningInitially, it came with an 80-amp built-in charger for the Extended Range battery pack (I own that in my 2022 Lightning). However, Ford stopped offering this option in 2024.

But General Motors provides an 80-amp on-board charger as a choice across all its current electric vehicle models, from theCadillac Escalade IQ, down to the Chevrolet Equinox EV. Lucid Motors also offers an 80-amp on-board charger option for both theAir and the Gravity, as does the Porsche Taycan and the Audi Q8 e-tron.

There is a limited selection of 80-amp chargers available, and the majority come with a cost exceeding $1,000, yet one model distinguishes itself due to its superior quality and affordable price.

United Chargers Grizzl-E Ultimate 80

As with the 48-amp version discussed earlier, theGrizzl-E Ultimate 80is a straightforward, top-notch electric vehicle charger offered at an extremely reasonable cost. Indeed, the Grizzl-E Ultimate 80 is the most affordable, safety-approved EV charger currently available in the United States.

It includes all the top features found in other products within the United Chargers Grizzl-E series, yet provides the maximum power permitted by regulations for AC-powered electric vehicle charging units. Selecting the Grizzl-E Ultimate 80 as my preferred 80-amp charger for 2025 was the most straightforward choice.

Honorable Mentions

I would also like to give two honorable mentions: The Grizzl-E Classic and the Emporia Classic are both excellent chargers and provide outstanding value.

The Grizzl-E Classicfeatures a 40-amp charger that comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug, but it can also be installed by hardwiring after removing the plug. It's a durable, straightforward EV charger that lacks any smart charging capabilities and does not connect to an application.

It simply charges your electric vehicle and does so in a secure, dependable, and highly economical manner, as the cost is just $349.99. If you're seeking a safety-approved, premium charger, and you neither require nor desire an app, with 40-amps being sufficient for your needs, then the Grizzl-E Classic offers the most favorable offer available.

Finally, the Emporia Classicis a 48-amp Wi-Fi-enabled charger that was Emporia's leading product until the Emporia Pro came out last year. It is also a highly durable charger and can link with the Emporia app and the full range of energy management devices, similar to the Pro. It will also offer smart power management, but for this feature, you must buy the Emporia Vue system separately.

The Emporia Classic is priced at $429.00 and offers a reliable 48-amp charging solution, featuring an app for tracking energy usage and setting schedules, along with necessary safety certifications.
