A Journey Through Time: Brynn Wallner’s Passion for Watches and Collaborations
Brynn Wallner, the founder of Dimepiece, has carved a unique path in the world of horology. Her journey began with an internship at Sotheby's, where she developed a deep appreciation for timepieces. This passion led her to launch Dimepiece in 2020 as an Instagram account, which has since evolved into a respected resource for enthusiasts interested in watchmaking.
Wallner is not only a curator of vintage watches but also a visionary who recently partnered with Timex to reissue the 1995 Intrepid watch, a piece once worn by John F. Kennedy Jr. This collaboration reflects her commitment to inclusivity and modern design within the watch industry.
What I'm Watching
This summer, Wallner has been captivated by the Criterion Collection. She finds that watching films helps her feel fulfilled during the warmer months when her TV consumption decreases. Many of her favorite films are in French, which she uses to enhance her language skills through Duolingo. Some highlights include:
- The Sandpiper (Vincente Minnelli, 1965) starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton – a heart-wrenching story about forbidden love and a woman's right to independence.
- Water Lilies (Celine Sciamma, 2007) – an intimate French film exploring teenage friendship, sexuality, and obsession.
- La Piscine (Jacques Deray, 1969) – a summer staple featuring Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, followed by Luca Guadagnino's 2015 remake, A Bigger Splash.
- Stranger by the Lake (Alain Guiraudie, 2013) – a visually stunning film that may not be suitable for all viewers due to its content.
My Favorite Instagram Accounts
Wallner follows several accounts that inspire her, including:
- @goldberger, known for his collection of watches.
- @sofziman, whose photography captured the Timex collaboration campaign.
- @databutmakeitfashion, which keeps her updated on consumerist fashion trends.
My Beauty Must-Haves
Wallner shares some of her daily skincare essentials:
- The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (with Ceramides) – a serum she relies on for her skin.
- Neutrogena's Invisible Daily Defense Sunscreen Face Serum – though she admits she still has a tanned face despite its 60 SPF.
- Sofie Pavitt Face's Omega Rich Moisturiser – a rich cream she uses while traveling.
- Neal's Yard Remedies' Frankincense Intense Triple Action Melting Cleanser – a luxurious cleanser with a divine scent.
- Jason's Calming Lavender Body Wash – making her showers a delightful experience.
My New York Haunts
Wallner has a routine that includes visiting Cafe Himalaya every Friday for Nepalese comfort food, particularly the vegetarian noodle soup and potato momos. She also enjoys walking along the West Side Highway, gazing at Hoboken, New Jersey, from the Hudson River. One of her favorite landmarks is the Bust of Sylvette, a large statue designed by Pablo Picasso.
My Favorite Jewelry Piece
Her favorite jewelry is the Carolina Bucci Lucky bracelet, which she received during a visit to Bucci's workshop in Florence. It represents her style and is always with her.
My First Timepiece
Wallner's first luxury watch was the Cartier Tank Francaise, purchased in 2021 to celebrate her 31st birthday and the success of Dimepiece. Vogue covered her shopping experience at the Cartier mansion on Fifth Avenue. This watch remains a staple in her collection due to its versatility and significance.
Most Unforgettable Hotel Stays
Her first trip to Paris, which took place on her 32nd birthday, included a stay at Le Meurice, where she enjoyed Cedric Grolet fruit pastries while watching the Eiffel Tower glitter during a thunderstorm. In Santorini, she stayed at the Perivolas Hotel, enjoying a private pool and room service at sunset.
My Travel Bucket List
Wallner is eager to visit the South of France, planning a trip next summer after improving her French skills.
My Style Icons
She admires her mother's relaxed Southern California chic, as well as Jane Birkin in La Piscine, Lauren Hutton in American Gigolo, and Princess Diana.
About This Timex Collab
The Timex Intrepid Dimepiece Edition is a tribute to the original 1995 Intrepid, which Wallner spotted in a photo of JFK Jr. She collaborated with Alan Bedwell to create a scaled-down version at 36mm, incorporating cosmetic nods to Dimepiece. The reissue features pops of purple, nostalgia-fueled Indiglo pushers, and a creamy vintage-inspired dial. The Dimepiece logo appears only on the caseback, emphasizing the brand's commitment to inclusivity and gender-neutral design.
