Dominance at Queensland Raceway
Triple Eight’s Broc Feeney and Will Brown showcased their dominance during a day of racing at Queensland Raceway, securing two wins and a 1-2 finish. The event marked the first time the circuit hosted the competition in six years, and the Chevrolet Camaros clearly stood out as the top contenders.
Feeney took the lead in the opening race with ease, demonstrating his control over the track. However, the second race had a twist when officials penalized him for a minor infraction at the start, resulting in a five-second penalty. This placed Feeney in second position behind Brown, who managed to hold off Feeney’s attempts to overtake.
Brown, the defending champion, expressed satisfaction with his win, acknowledging that it wasn’t the ideal way to achieve it. He emphasized the importance of maintaining his position to prevent Feeney from gaining an advantage. Feeney, on the other hand, accepted the penalty gracefully, recognizing that the decision was fair.
With these results, Feeney secured the Sprint Cup section of the 2026 Championship, ensuring automatic qualification for the inaugural Finals. His performance highlighted the strength of the team and the strategic decisions made throughout the races.
Strong Performances from Other Drivers
Ryan Wood of Walkinshaw Andretti United delivered a commendable third-place finish, repeating his result from the opening race. His strong performance in the twin Qualifying sessions allowed him to start from second and third on the grid. Despite a challenging second race where he dropped significantly, Wood fought his way back onto the podium.
Wood shared his thoughts on the experience, noting the unexpected challenge of passing multiple cars and the significance of the four-tyre pitstop. He expressed optimism about the team's progress and hopes for continued success in the upcoming races.
Anton De Pasquale finished fourth for Team 18, followed by Cameron Waters of Tickford Ford. Waters faced a difficult start after a mishap early in the race, but he managed to recover and secure a respectable position.
Notable Moments and Challenges
In the opening race, Feeney demonstrated his ability to handle a damp track, securing the win after making a late compulsory pitstop. The race concluded under a safety car due to incidents involving two cars, adding an extra layer of excitement.
Kai Allen of Grove Racing made a remarkable showing, finishing second in the opening race. His Mustang emerged from a three-car ruck early in the race, marking a career-best achievement. Wood’s third-place finish contributed to a historic moment, as it marked the youngest-ever podium in the history of the Touring Car/Supercars championship.
Chaz Mostert faced a tough day, with his opening race cut short due to brake problems. In the second race, he struggled to break free from a multi-car train but managed to finish in seventh place.
